5:29 you're doing and and and about your service absolutely uh so first I'll give a disclaimer to as well all my opinions are of my own and not of the military or the federal government so just to get that out there but a little bit about myself I joined the military in 2011 uh in the Infantry Tennessee Army National Guard uh from there still currently serving so I've done military service since that time have deployed to Kuwait and among some other missions to Hungary Romania and also Vietnam apart from that uh very very involved politically I've done a lot of jobs with several nonprofits uh other

6:09 organizations and currently working for the US House of Representatives um apart from that just on the civilian side uh drove some 18 wheelers and dump trucks and fixed some trailers um but also just very involved in church and I I play drums uh when I can in my free time uh for various praise teams and churches that need me to fill in so very very much involved love my community I I try to serve any way I can so that's just a a little bit about myself all right Mickey that's the kind of people we like to have on Patriots perspective we like people who um are patriots who are have not only served um

6:51 but have a point of view and actually have still have an opinion of their own so we appreciate that very much and appreciate the preface of your opinion and we appreciate you being able to speak out and wanting to speak out and like many of the the Patriots um in our community that we enjoy having those freedoms to speak out so how when did you first get involved in the military and why first got involved uh towards my senior year of high school I I wanted to join the Marines and my buddy actually at the time uh didn't end up following through with it so I took took a little break went to Community College and uh

7:32 you know got a job at a CD swap shop and this is a time where they uh nobody really bought CS anymore and I just wanted more out of life I wanted to do more for my community and I I've always wanted to serve my country I watched a lot of war movies and I always uh wanted to give back and be that person that um can give back to others so that's when I decided to join the military and um I I've loved it uh every minute of it I'm uh honored uh to have that privilege uh to serve my country in that capacity and

8:03 I I hope to continue doing that as long as I can pending uh any craziness in between um but uh you know I'm glad Trump's back in office now and uh I have a lot of confidence uh built back up in the military uh to where I I feel comfortable serving uh and I'm able to yeah I think I don't think you're alone in that from what I'm hearing on the ground there's a lot of you know our veterans that are very appreciative that he's back in and looking forward to you know a lot of people are going back in the service um by any chance did you

8:35 when when that jabber do thing came out um did you reject it did you have any issues um with it yeah so I'd actually got back from Kuwait uh towards the end of 2019 in the beginning of 2020 when the outbreak had happened I I was a little unsure and this is when Biden got elected to office and I I was really just hearing down the pipeline they're going to make it mandatory to get the jab and I didn't really believe it but it happened on the active duty side and then I said well surely not the National Guard surely not earth State here in Tennessee uh following next year around June time

9:18 frame it it happened here in the state of Tennessee uh and the country he he had mandated that National Guard will be getting it as well so after that point uh there's two options you could either do a medical exemption or a religious exemption if you wanted to uh stay in uh so I did a medical exemption i' actually got covid uh everything was good I had the uh antibodies the autoimmunity uh everything was was good for me but they rejected my medical exemption so um I also just based on my beliefs uh I did the religious exemption and the state had sent that up to the National Guard Bureau where it set and

10:00 they didn't do anything with it for months and months and months but what really angered me and it was kind of the the last um straw for me was when soldiers who didn't have any type of exemption they would not allow them to come to drill but they still had them on the books so they didn't get paid they didn't get benefits retirement benefit points they didn't get uh medical benefits because they were flagged so all these things started happening and and I I was sitting here thinking well what if you're a single mom in the National Guard and now that was offsetting your rent for the month or

10:36 your mortgage or your gas and we all know during Biden's Administration gas prices were insanely high and on top of groceries so how do you feed your family how do you feed your kids so I started seeing that and I started seeing how it was affecting other soldiers uh that I knew uh who had heart attacks who were coughing up blood uh people personally in my section getting blood clots and you know I had voiced my opinion on it and I look I I'm all for medical Freedom if you want to take it and you believe

11:09 that's a benefit to you good go for it but I felt like it was experimental it was too soon I was seeing these issues but also believe if you feel like you shouldn't take it and it's at a detriment to your health you should not take it so that's all I was arguing for was for medical freedom but that was so hard to do for some odd reason uh you know you have people dying on one side and and getting hurt and injured and and dying on the other so you know what was I left to do uh I had to take it to the chain of command it didn't work so I

11:41 took it to the governor they blew me off uh I took it and talked to all the legislators across the state they were all on board doing a special session I held a press conference at the Capitol steps there here in Tennessee uh you know walked a letter a draft of a request to the governor which he again was not there me and the governor went back and forth on the radio not directly mentioning my name at all but he would refute everything I was saying uh but eventually after talking to some of the federally elected officials Senator black burn some of the other congressmen and women eventually I got that into

12:20 their ear and with their staff and eventually Marsha Blackburn through the National Defense authorization act in 2022 of December had got that repealed the Mandate so it was a a huge win we were able to come back to drill again uh those who didn't have exemptions uh and it was a it was a good success um I think and it was a little too late um too little too late there's still people that's affected by it but you know I'm glad that she was able to do that because it helped with Recruitment and it helped with retention during a time where we look across Seas
